Sideboard Jiří Jiroutek
Description
The cabinet marked U-458 is divided into a storage part with a longitudinal shelf and a part with four drawers. The cabinet has a veneered (oak) surface. The base is made of solid spruce.
The cabinet comes from the famous Universal series (U-450), which was designed in 1958 for the Czechoslovak national company Interiér Praha by the Czech designer Jiří Jiroutek. The success of the Czech pavilion at the Ex-‘58 in Brussels was followed by the rise of the modernist style (called the "Brussels style" in Czechoslovakia).
One of the most prominent representatives of the Brussels style are the cabinets and chests of drawers from the U-450 series with typical pastel colors and sloping legs. These cabinets have been manufactured with great success for almost 20 years. In Czechoslovakia in the 1960s and 1970s, you could meet them in almost every modern household.
